Home owners

Every Queensland home needs interconnected photoelectric smoke alarms by 1 January 2027.

Fixed per-bedroom pricing, 10-year warranty alarms, and a maintenance plan that keeps them working long after we leave.

Vogue Smoke Alarms install compliant interconnected photoelectric smoke alarms in Queensland homes. We have a simple fixed per-bedroom pricing structure with standard and premium brand options. We also offer annual maintenance plans from less than $5 per week across Ipswich, Brisbane, the Gold Coast, Toowoomba and the Sunshine Coast.

What the law requires

Queensland's smoke alarm legislation already applies to homes that are sold or leased. From 1 January 2027 it applies to every dwelling. A compliant home has alarms that are:

  • Photoelectric, not ionisation, and less than 10 years old
  • Interconnected, so when one sounds they all sound
  • Hardwired to 240V, or powered by a non-removable 10-year lithium battery
  • Installed in every bedroom, in hallways that connect bedrooms to the rest of the house, and on every storey

We install to the Queensland Fire Department placement rules and leave you a compliance record for your insurer or future sale.

Check if your home is compliant

Every Queensland home must comply by 1 January 2027.

Homes sold or leased already must. Most homes are done in under two hours, so there is still time, but the calendar fills from November.

Answered any time
During business hours you get our office. After hours and on weekends our AI phone assistant answers straight away, so you are not lying awake waiting for 7am.
Talked through it
The assistant walks you through smoke alarm fault finding step by step: which alarm is causing it, whether it is a battery, dust or a fault, and what to do about it. Most calls end there.
A technician if it needs one
If it cannot be fixed on the phone, a service call is logged for the next business day. Standard smoke alarm calls are unlimited on every plan, so there is nothing to pay.

Common questions

What does Queensland smoke alarm law require from 1 January 2027?

From 1 January 2027 every Queensland home must have photoelectric smoke alarms that are interconnected, either hardwired to 240V or powered by a non-removable 10-year battery, installed in every bedroom, in hallways connecting bedrooms to the rest of the house, and on every storey. Homes sold or leased have had to comply since 1 January 2022.

How much does a compliant smoke alarm upgrade cost?

Vogue prices upgrades per bedroom, supply and install, including GST. A Basic Lucci RF-interconnected photoelectric system is $295 for a 1 bedroom home up to $1,099 for 6 bedrooms. A Premium Emerald EVO hardwired 240V system with battery backup, wall controller and app is $395 to $1,479.

Do I need to replace alarms that still work?

If they are ionisation type, older than 10 years, or not interconnected, yes. Working is not the same as compliant, and from 2027 insurers and buyers will ask.

Hardwired or 10-year battery?

The Queensland regulation allows either. Alarms must be photoelectric, comply with AS 3786-2014, be interconnected with every other alarm in the home, and be either hardwired to 240V or powered by a non-removable 10-year lithium battery. Two exceptions: in a new build or substantial renovation the alarms must be hardwired, and when you replace an existing hardwired alarm the replacement must also be hardwired.

How long does an install take?

Most homes are done in under two hours. We test every alarm, show you the interconnection working, and leave a written record.

What is a smoke alarm maintenance plan?

An annual plan from $249 a year that includes a lifetime in-home alarm warranty, an annual smoke alarm clean and service, an annual RCD safety switch test, unlimited standard smoke alarm service calls and a 24/7 support line with after-hours fault finding by phone. Higher plans add unlimited electrical and air conditioning service calls.

Why do smoke alarms chirp?

A single chirp every minute or so usually means a low battery or an alarm reaching end of life. In an interconnected system one faulty alarm can set the others off. If you are on a maintenance plan, call our 24/7 line: after hours our AI phone assistant talks you through finding the cause, and if it needs a technician we attend at no charge.

What happens if an alarm plays up at night?

Plan members call the same number any time. During business hours you get our office. After hours and on weekends our AI phone assistant answers straight away and walks you through smoke alarm fault finding step by step. If it cannot be resolved on the phone, a service call is logged for the next business day, and on a plan that call is included.
